A Little Taste of Uruguay: First Up - Colonia

Egyptian
Pots of Gold
Irish
Colonia

The word quaint might have been invented purely to explain Uruguay's Colonia de Sacramento. Wandering the streets at night, in off-peak season, it felt like a ghost town. We saw hardly anyone, restaurants were open but deserted. This little gem of a town was incredibly beautiful with sunlight dappling through autumnal leaved trees. It was littered with old cars, cobblestone streets and funky street lights.

We relaxed in a lovely hotel, chilled and ate at street side restaurants while sipping frozen strawberry daiquiris with not a care in the world.

Here we also celebrated Geoff's birthday. His wish for the evening was to visit the casino. We practically had the entire place to ourselves, with only a handful of other people in the building. But that didn't stop us from having a good time. Ken and myself found the most cringe-inducing diddly-i Irish themed slot machines, complete with leprechauns, pots of gold, shamrocks and horrendous Irish accents (I'm sorry but we do not speak like that folks, to be sure, to be sure and begorra!!) On the other hand, Geoff seemed to have lady luck on his side and struck gold in another lot of slot machines, winning just over US$350 at an Egyptian themed machine. He reckons it was doing the dance moves to "Walk Like An Egyptian" while playing that did the trick for him - and who knows perhaps it was. Although others tried this method, and failed...
