Returning to some Normality in Punta del Este

Punta del Este is a resort city and a top tourist destination in Uruguay at high season. We only spent a short time here, as the town was deserted. It's amazing to see how seasonal this country is. Plus it is really only busy for three months of the year: mid December until mid February. How anyone makes a living from that is beyond me.

Due to it being low season, we could afford to stay at a swanky hotel, where white was the theme colour of everything. Being (usually) dusty over-landers I think we all felt a bit terrified of touching anything for fear of leaving a mark. Still it is the hotel's own fault for having a nightmare to clean colour, (brilliant white), absolutely everywhere.

One heavenly consistency so far from Uruguay seems to be AMAZING hot and powerful electric showers. It is pure and utter bliss. That, teamed with white fluffy towels, and I'm lapping in the life of luxury.

Wandered around the port and came across the fattest sea-lions I have seen on this trip, they were horrendously obese - caused from eating fishermen's scraps. Weather was a bit chilly so didn't do too much exploring, just made a point to head to see La Mano, a sculpture of five human fingers partially emerging from sand, located at Brava Beach. Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal was inspired to make the sculpture of a hand "drowning" as a warning to swimmers, as the waters at the beach had rough waves which were better for surfing only.

Managed to watch the Lions match against Western Force, delighted to see the Irish lads doing superbly and crossing the try line numerous times! Also watched the Uruguay v France match, in which the hosts beat France 1-0. I am slowly re-introducing sport back into my routine. Pretty soon it will all back to normal and attending games rather than merely watching them on the box.
