Viva Colombia - Life's a Beach!

Emigration
Peace
Insane
Colombia

Emigration process for leaving Venezuela was far too easy, pain must always be involved at borders and so our arrival into Colombia didn't go too smoothly. The day was hot and sticky and Pete had paid some fixers to stand in the queue on our behalf. While waiting on the truck for hours we learned that little fights were erupting, and people were being carted off after fainting in the line - it sounded insane but still we waited. Six hours later we got word that now was the time to join the queue, so we all rocked up to the border building, and were slotted about halfway in the queue. Needless to say, seeing 22 gringos jump the queue did not go down well with locals who we cut ahead of. The fixers had explained that they were queuing for others, but still tensions were rife and the guys at the end had to put up with a lot of aggro. Thankfully we all eventually got through and made it safely back to the truck.

We decided to chill out at a lovely beach location, just outside Tayrona national park, camping just a stone's throw from the ocean. There were two nicely placed palms by my tent so I strung up my hammock and spent quite some time lounging in it, enjoying the peace and quiet. I'm getting very attached to hammocks - they totally rock! Had to keep a watchful eye out for falling coconuts though, they packed quite a punch when they fell on the sand.

Nights were spent sitting round beach fires chatting, and on the first night candles were sunk into the sand around the fire, creating a very cosy glow. I'm hoping for more beach time, but sadly there's not a lot left, think just a tiny bit in Peru. Gotta make the most of it while I can.
